Vestlandet or Fjord Norway

The long thin Westerly region bordering the North Sea from Stavanger to Kristiansund is known as Vestlandet. Ihis is the land of the fjords, where fingers of deep blue and green water  penetrate far inland from the island-studded coast, cutting spectacularly through the awesome mountains. Picturesque villages edge the shoreline, linked by ferries, tunnels and precipitous winding roads.

If one thinks of Norway one ineviatably thinks of the fjords, the mighty and majestic sea inlets reaching deep into the countryside. While Norway has fjords around its coast, the western counties have the most spectacular of all. Geirangerfjord, Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord, and Lysefjord, each have a character of their own and each have a story to tell the visitor.
