Oppland

Oppland is one of Norway's 19 counties and is located in the south central parts of the country. You can easily drive to most parts of Oppland within three hours from Oslo.

The landscape of the region is varied. Vast parts are flat and surrounded by beautiful lakes. Rich soil and easy access to water make these areas ideal for farming. The northernmost parts are mountainous and popular for hiking and skiing. Hence, farming and tourism are major contributors to the region's economy. Oppland has, however, been an industrial stronghold for many decades. Both small and large industrial companies have offices and plants here.

In 1994, the region hosted the Winter Olympics. Lillehammer was the official host city but the whole region pulled together to make it happen. As a result of the successful Olympics the number of visitors has increased. Another positive effect was the improvement of the infrastructure. New roads were built and the existing ones were upgraded. This has given the region a whole new dimension and new possibilities.
