New Zealand or Norway

Why Travel 12,000 Miles to New Zealand, when you can do the same things In Norway...?
The usual pile of post lay on the doormat. A couple of bills, a bank statement and a trite message on a postcard from a colleague:

"Wish you were here. Gorgeous mountain scenery. Went canyoning yesterday - what an experience! Just the sound of rushing waterfalls, the howl of a wolf, the cry of a hawk. Seems like we're the only guys on the planet. Fabulous log cabin, and not as expensive here as we thought. Kayaking tomorrow, and maybe jet boating before we leave. See you Friday."

I flicked the postcard over. Where was he visiting this holiday? New Zealand? Canada? It can't be right. It says Norway!

Is Norway the New Dubai?

Travel

It is not often that you see the country of Norway mentioned in the same sentence as Dubai. Probably that would be the equivalent of a triple word score in Scrabble, or a Googlewhack on a search engine. However, the two countries do have quite a lot in common. Both are incredibly oil-rich and are keen to promote tourism. Both countries also see temperatures of around 24C, albeit for Norway it is in the heights of summer, and in Dubai it is in the depths of winter. Of course that's because Dubai sits on the Tropic of Cancer while Norway creeps into the Arctic Circle. Perhaps I have already exhausted the similarities.
