Update 2011

The northern lights here have been fantastic so far this season - many thanks to the Sadler family for these excellent photos taken in February, click the link below to view the album on our facebook page:

Constructed in 2008 from local timber, these cabins combine the best traditions of a Norwegian fisherman's cabin with modern comforts, they are a perfect retreat for couples, for an active family holiday or groups wanting to fish the rich North Norway waters.

The area is an unspoilt paradise for wildlife, whales are regularly sighted in the fjord, and you can watch sea eagles gliding high above the cabins.

Downstairs:
Entrance lobby with utility room and electric dryer for clothes/footwear, large bathroom with underfloor heating, shower, toilet and sauna.  Twin/double bedroom.

There is a large open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area with leather suite and dining table for six, the kitchen has a fridge/freezer and dishwasher.  A door leads onto the terrace which is built over the water and is a delightful place to sit and enjoy the view with direct access to the fjord and fishing boats, it is perfectly safe for young children provided they are supervised.

Upstairs:
The staircase leads into a spacious upstairs lounge with wooden floor, leather corner suite and glazed wall with french windows leading onto a balcony which affords beautiful views across the placid water to the far shore with mountains beyond.  There is a flat-screen TV with Satellite and DVD player.

There are two further twin/double bedrooms, and a large wetroom with toilet, shower and underfloor heating.

Location:
Lyngseidet is a pretty working fishing village which nestles in the shadow of the Lyngen Alps, snow capped mountains drop dramatically into the clear fjord water.  It is about 1 hour from Tromso airport by car.  There is a small supermarket within walking distance, and sports shop which sells outdoor gear and fishing tackle.

There is a car ferry from the harbour which takes you across the fjord if you want to explore further.

Fishing:
The area is renowned for having some of the best fishing waters in the world, the rich clean waters of the Lyngen Fjord attract large shoals of fish.  Fishing boats can be hired with the cabins and are moored directly outside making this the perfect location for a fishing holiday.

Northern Lights:
If you want to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, then you are in the right place.  Guests regularly see breathtaking displays of this natural phenomenon from these cabins, their location above the Arctic circle combined with low light-pollution create the perfect conditions to see the Aurora.

Dog Sledging and Arctic Adventures:
You will be collected by a local guide who will take you out into the wilderness on a traditional sled either with dogs or reindeer.  After your trip you will be taken back to a traditional Sami "lavvu" tent to warm up with a roaring fire and hot food, before heading out for "snow shoeing" and hopefully catch the Northern Lights.

These are superb and authentic adventures, our guides are highly knowledgeable and passionate about the area, its wildlife and the indigenous Sami people, who you will meet as part of your adventure.

We can also arrange thrilling snowmobile tours which take you to normally inaccessible areas across the border into Finland.

These tours are available for two or more people, we recommend booking at the same time as you reseve the cabin as availability is very limited and they take a little time to arrange.

Dog Sledging Adventure: 7 hours

Reindeer Sleigh Adventure: 7 hours

Snowmobile Safari: 7 hours

we are writing to send you the most enormous, THANK YOU. We had the time of our lives on holiday in Norway last week. We were fortunate enough to see moose, sea eagles, a sea otter AND the most incredible display of Northern Lights. That, coupled with the exciting activities (of which all were wonderful but the husky dogs we really loved) and the GORGEOUS cabin with the stunning view meant for a truly amazing holiday. I kept a diary and this week, busy back at work, I am still reading it each morning and thinking back so very fondly of 'this time last week'...

I thank you for your help and patience in the organising of the holiday and for pointing us in this direction which was definitely the right one. Talking of directions, driving out of Tromso at nght was a bit hairy but , we just made the 11.30pm ferry which was a relief!
We have many photos and memories but I am really hoping that we will be able to visit again, and if so would definitely want to stay there again. Stein Eric was also a lovely host and we will email our thanks to him also.
So, once again many thanks or Tusentak!

Thank you

We were lucky enough to spend a fantastic week at Lyngen Fjordside Cabins, a February week during which we enjoyed spectacular displays of the northern lights on four separate occasions, saw moose and reindeer a couple of times, went dog sledding in bright sunshine, and did plenty of hiking and cross country skiing. Best of all was returning from active days in the beautiful snowy mountains to a warm, spacious and comfortable cabin where we could not only continue to enjoy the dramatic scenery but also relax in the hot sauna. Our stay in the cabin was one of the most memorable and enjoyable holidays we've had. We will definitely be returning!

All the best.

We had an amazing time in the cabin. We arrived in a blizzard and were surprised to see a second range of mountains which appeared on Monday when the blizzard stopped! All the excursions were great fun and we enjoyed each in different ways. Our Sami man was very informative about their way of life, but the reindeer drive was a little bit tame!

The snowmobiling was incredible – just us and the most lovely guide. The dog sledding at night was also fantastic, although we didn’t see the northern lights that night. We saw them on three nights, taking Steen Erik’s advice as to where to drive to see them best. We also saw them from the cabin balcony and will forward a photo if you want to use it. The cabin was perfect – warm, well-equipped and very spacious and Steen Erik was wonderful.

I think it is the most peaceful and beautiful place I have ever been We also saw whales one afternoon in the bay. The car hire collection was a bit of a mess because they didn’t have the car back and we ended up having to trail across town to collect one, but it was okay in the end.

I would miss out Oslo or not go there on a Sunday next time. We would definitely want to go back to the cabin one day. We would recommend going in February as the days are quickly getting longer and we had over 8 hours daylight each day by the end of the week.

Cheers and thanks for a wonderful holiday!
