Hove Festival

You awake to the sound of birdsong, stumble out of your tent into the glorious Norwegian summer, take a dip in the suprisingly warm fjord then spend the day exploring a fabulous island paradise.  Later, you see your favourite bands, perhaps catch a film, then party into the night - but beware - it doesn't get dark here this time of year.

Are you dreaming? No, welcome to the Hove Festival; five days of great music set on a beautiful island off the south coast of Norway, with some of the friendliest, laid back people you could hope meet (most of whom are unreasonably good looking too).

If you love festivals, fresh air and adventure - why not do something different next year? Visit the Hove Festival 2010, you'll have the time of your life.

HOVE 2010: THEM CROOKED VULTURES, MUSE, DIZZEE RASCAL CONFIRMED

This year's Hove Festival promises to be the biggest and best yet with some massive names confirmed to play the music festival in Norway this summer.

With four days of music, film and fun, in an amazing island setting off Norway's south coast, the Hove Festival is a real hidden gem, only a few hours travel from the UK.

Them Crooked Vultures, Muse and Dizzee Rascal to Headline

If you haven't heard of Them Crooked Vultures, you will certainly have heard of the illustrious members of this transatlantic band.  Featuring Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) on drums, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) on lead vocal, and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on bass, the band somehow manages to be even greater than the sum of its parts.

Following the success of their sellout UK tour, Them Crooked Vultures have chosen the Hove Festival as the venue for their first gig in Norway and if their few previous live shows have been anything to go by, it promises to be a sensational performance.

And as if that wasn't enough, the Hove Festival 2010 will also play host to British super group Muse, whose epic sound and electrifying live shows have earned them a massive worldwide following.  Their most recent album, Resistance, went to number one in 19 countries, Hove festival goers can expect to hear hits from the new album plus some of their biggest hits from the past ten years.

Headlining the second stage at Hove is the cheeky king of UK Grime, Dizzee Rascal.  Following his Mercury prize winning debut "Da Boy in Da Corner", Dizzee has gone from strength to strength confirming his position as part of the urban music establishment.  Never afraid to push the boundaries, the East London boy has developed a bombastic eclectic style, and his live outdoor show at the Hove Festival promises to be a riot.

I love festivals, but there are now so many in the UK that it's easy to get festival-fatigue - and picking the wrong one can be an expensive mistake. Having been disappointed by a couple of nameless festivals last year, I decided to look further afield in 2009.

Join Dave Arnesen as he sets off on a Norwegian festival adventure to the Hove Festival 2009, and gets lost - literally - in the music...
