In Hellesøy you will find a harbour with old boathouses, a brand new complex of holiday houses, floating stages and boats. There is also a large floating stages for guests. In the harbour there is also a small grocery shop, a restaurant, the ferry to Hernar - the northernmost inhabited island in Øygarden - and a fantastic atmosphere of open sea, sun, wind and hospitality.
Öygarden - and in particular Hellesöy - is widely known for its rich fishing and picturesque surroundings. The municipality of Øygarden is the northernmost in the group of islands west of Bergen under the name of Sotra. The municipality has approximately 4,000 inhabitants. Traditional main occupation has been fishing and shipping. Today, oil industry and tourism are the most important occupations.
Øygarden consists of a a row of small islands tied together by a dozen bridges like The Florida Keys. Hellesøy is the northernmost of these islands with a mainland connection and consequently comparable to Key West.
