Norwegian Wood Cabin

A large and comfortable traditional Norwegian cabin, in a quite stunning riverside location surrounded by forest and mountains with an outdoor hot tub and boules pitch. If you want to get away from it all, this is the cabin for you. Elk and other wildlife can often be seen passing the cabin to drink from the river, and lynx have also been seen in the wooded hillside beyond. A paradise for fishing and photography.

This cabin is ideally situated within a reasonably short drive from Oslo Torp Airport.  The cabin offers well furnished accommodation for up to 9 guests, it has a large open-plan living area with open fire and flat screen TV (for those who don't want to be completely cut off from the outside world).

One of the main features of this property is the wonderful and secluded sandy beach with 700 metres of the cabin.

The river is closer just 20 meters from the cabin...

This beach has a volley ball net... and is ideal for swimming.

The cabin is with 60 metres on one other cabin... but this is only used occasionally by the owners.. so the chances are you will be alone..

The area has walks... and great fishing possibilities. Trout and perch being the main fish caught.

Norway Cabin, Norway Cabins, Log Cabins Norway Relax…

Staying at Norwegian Wood Cabin is a chance to re charge your batteries... Reflect on the things that really matter in life.. and spend quality time with family and friends.

The surroundings

Set in a valley with direct views to the river and the local mountains this cabin is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the true Norway. The cabin is situated on a flat rock plateau on the edge of the heather clad pine forest. A short 50 metres walk takes you down to the crystal clear waters of the river. Where you can fish for trout, take a canoe trip or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the Norwegian Countryside.

The views to Storefjell (Large Mountain) are amazing at sunrise when the sun changes the colour of the mountain to various shades of purple green and brown. Rising up to about 1000 metres the local glacier carved mountains are not the Alps but have a charm of their own. Locals believe the mountain range is in the shape of a sleeping giant troll…

The cabin is situated on the edge of a pine forest approximately 150 metres from the road. The pine forest is rich in wildlife including Moose (elk), Red Deer, Roe Deer, Red Squirrels, Artic Hares, Badgers and Foxes… There is the occasional wolf in the area, in fact as this is being written August 2007 there is a warning notice about wolves to local sheep farmers. Speaking to the local timber workers there are rumours of a family of bears living in the surrounding mountains. Beavers inhabit the local rivers and evidence of their activity can be seen in the whole area. The bird life also is also in abundance with Black Wood Peckers and many different birds of prey, including golden eagles.

In the right season there is an abundance of berries and mushrooms including blue berries, cranberries and cloud berries (an arctic delicacy).

There are many walks from the cabin. You can walk for as long and where you wish because of Norway’s relaxed “Right to Roam Laws”… The Norwegians believe that the countryside is for the people and “trespassing” is almost unheard of… So walk where you please… no one will bother you. Ordinance survey maps of the area are supplied in the cabin and we have a number of suggested walks.

The Four Seasons

The seasons in Norway are more distinct than in the UK. Warm Summers up to 30 degrees and cold snowy Winters are the norm. So the correct clothing to match the season are required.

Every season at Norwegian Wood has its benefits. Spring often is warm… With snow still in the mountains. The 17th of May is the National day and offers a great photo opportunity with many of the locals dressing in national costume. Trout fishing

Summer offers swimming in the crystal clear waters of the lake at the beautiful “Storesand” (Big beach)

Autumn offers the colours of the forest which in itself a great photo opportunity… Plus the abundance of wild berries and mushrooms in the forest.

Winter offers the snow … Which usually arrives in mid November an lasts through until Easter. This of course cannot be guaranteed… Many of the locals use snow scooters for their transport during the Winter months. You can X-country ski directly from the door, and its approx. 45 (50 kms) minutes drive to the local ski centre… called Gautefall where you will find challenging downhill slopes, snow boarding facilities restaurant and bar and other winter activities.

If you only take one walk… Take the one to Storesand (Big Beach) … Its about 15 minutes away… and off the beaten track… A fresh water beach, golden natural sand, crystal clear waters and waterfalls overlooked by the mountains… You will probably have the place to yourself as it’s a local beauty spot virtually unknown to tourists…

"The most beautiful place I have been to, and we have been to a lot. Children loved it and the local shop keepers were so wonderful. I would have to give it 8 out of 10 always waiting for the 10."

"A cabin in a wonderful spot. The family had a wonderful time, as did I, & Tony was extremely helpful to the point of helping us get car hire when all looked lost. It is a beautiful country and I promise you, Norwegian Wood is missed and I waited sometime to ensure a fair and balanced review. The private beach is stunning and the river at the bottom of the property was great fun, how much fun can children have with a hammock, Ill tell you, PLENTY! A great introduction to Norway, unforgettable!"

"Very good spacious cabin, fully equipped and located right next to a trout infested river. it is so quiet day and night that youll have trouble sleeping once you leave. Very good positive experience."

"The property and location were absolutely stunning, fantastic opportunites for hiking, swimming (in lakes and rivers), mounaineering, cycling (our lovely host very kindly provided a bicycle!), fishing,...all on on our doorstep!! The locals were all very friendly, lending us fishing gear and hiking guides and maps. It was one of the most peaceful, beautiful places we had ever visited. We also found the property very well equipped-especially enjoyed making waffles in the waffle iron! And eating the delicious rainbow trout caught in the river! For us, the best thing were the views from the mountain tops after exhilarating hikes on freshly marked trails. We did NOT want to go home!"
