Hemsedal resembles more the Alps than Norway with its rugged, unspoilt mountains peaking at 1500 metres.
But it’s the variety and diversity of terrain, combined with an excellent snow record that make Hemsedal so popular for ski holidays in Norway. There’s a surprising variety of runs to enjoy including well-groomed blues and reds across huge, open bowls and picturesque forested slopes, plus endless off-piste opportunities to challenge.
It’s also a great place to learn, with its dedicated beginners’ area and professional ski school. It’s not just downhill either, with over 220km of cross country trails both at resort level and above the tree-line and a world class terrain park attracting pro-riders from across Europe.
Although quieter and relaxed during the week, Hemsedal’s bars and clubs really liven up at the weekend and during public holidays for après-ski the Scandinavian way. The resort has two main centres; Hemsedal Ski Centre, situated at the base of the ski area so the most convenient base for quick access to the slopes, and Hemsedal town centre, approximately 3km from the base of the slopes and the place to be for après-ski.
